If you are planning for a vacation with your whole family and you will be out for a couple of days or week, it is important that you prepare your home while you are away. Here are some helpful tips on to protect your home from intruders.
- Have a trusted person look after your house. Example your neighbour, a family member or a friend.
- Check your kitchen and refrigerator for foods inside that may possible spoil given the time you will be away from home. Example dairy products, meat, fruits and vegetables.
- Unplug all electronic appliances such as oven toaster, television, and computer.
- Keep your jewellery and other valuables in a safety box and put it in a safe place where thieves would not waste time in searching.
- At the time of your departure, make sure all windows and doors are properly locked.
- Put on security cameras for security purposes if in case, thieves are eyeing your house while you are away.
- Make sure you give several days notice to cut your newspaper delivery for the meantime or you will find all of them overflowing when you return. Ask someone to get your mails for you since unattended mails over the mailbox is a sure sign that no one is inside the house. Or else, ask the post office to hold your mails while you are on a vacation.
- Check also outside electronics and disconnect them from the sources to reduce the chances of fire.
- Clear out tools in your backyard to lessen the chances of thieves to use them to break in.
